Consultant Respiratory Physician
Dr Faisal Kamal is a consultant respiratory physician at the Royal Berkshire hospital.
He studied at Imperial College London and received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery MBBS in 2007. He intercalated with a BSc in endocrinology and was awarded Honours. After his foundation and core medical training in North West Thames, he completed specialist training in respiratory training and general internal medicine in North West Thames and trained at Imperial College NHS hospitals Hammersmith Hospital, Charing Cross and St Marys Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital respectively.
He was awarded a PhD investigating the role/utility of markers in breath in differentiating between bacterial and viral respiratory infections, based at St Marys Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital. Since his PhD, Dr Kamal has remained involved in research in collaboration with colleagues at Imperial and the University of Reading. Dr Kamal has published papers, in journals including American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and Chest.
Dr Faisal Kamal is experienced in managing all respiratory conditions, with a specialist interest in respiratory infections including tuberculosis. Other areas of interests include bronchiectasis, airways disease, lung cancer, respiratory failure, sleep disordered breathing, domiciliary nocturnal ventilation and oxygen therapy.
His area of practice also includes diagnosis and management of cancers -Bronchoscopy -Endobronchial ultrasound -Ultrasound guided pleural interventions
