Spirometry

Spirometry is a test used to measure lung function. It can help with investigating breathlessness and diagnose certain lung conditions, for example asthma and COPD.

It is advised to stop smoking for 24 hours before the test and to wear loose clothing. There will be checklist you will be asked before performing the test.

For the test you will be asked to take a deep breath in, and to breathe out as fast as you can in to a mouthpiece. You may be asked to do this more than once.

The whole test typically takes 10 minutes. Once you have completed the test, the results will be summarised and a report provided.
