Dr Doug Barker

Consultant Anaesthetist

Dr Doug Barker is a Consultant Anaesthetist within the Berkshire Private Anaesthesia (BPA) Partnership. He qualified from Imperial College London in 2006, having also completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Neurosciences.

Doug completed his early postgraduate medical training in the North West Thames region before returning to Imperial College as a Clinical Research Fellow. During this period, he was awarded a Master of Research degree in Translational Medicine (with merit). His clinical and academic work included the delivery and development of Phase I clinical trials at Hammersmith Hospital, collaborating with multinational organisations such as GE and GSK.

Dr Barker subsequently undertook anaesthesia training across the Oxford Deanery and was appointed Consultant Anaesthetist at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in 2016. His subspecialty interests include Perioperative Medicine and Obstetric Anaesthesia. He is a member of the Society for Obese and Bariatric Anaesthesia (SOBA) and has completed additional training in anaesthesia for bariatric and upper gastrointestinal surgery. He also leads several local research studies, including collaborative projects with the University of Reading.
